The business, on paper
One carpenter, three to five years in the trade, working out of Mitcham. When you call, you get the person who'll be doing the work — not a call centre, and not a subcontractor you've never met. That's the whole point of hiring a small operation: the quote, the work and the person you ring afterwards are all the same.
What we do
Grab rails and access ramps, period timber repairs, decking and outdoor structures, timber framing, custom carpentry, doors and frames, and repairs, maintenance and small jobs.
What we don't do
We're a carpenter, so electrical, plumbing and gas are not ours. If your job needs any of those we'll tell you at the quote rather than halfway through, and we'll say what needs a licensed trade instead of ours.
We're also not a registered builder. In Victoria that matters above $10,000 of building work, and we quote and work inside that line. If a job is bigger than that, we'll say so and point you at someone registered rather than take it on.
How quoting works
Call or send the form. You'll hear back within one business day. For anything beyond a two-minute question we come out and look at the job — that visit is free, and it's the only way to give you a number that holds.
After the visit you get a fixed price in writing. Not a range, not an estimate that moves once the work starts. If we open something up and find a genuine surprise — rot further along a bearer than anyone could see from outside — we stop, show you, and re-quote that part before carrying on.
There's a $180 minimum for any visit. Prices for common jobs are on the homepage price list.
The 12-month workmanship guarantee
Twelve months from the invoice date on our workmanship. If something we built or fixed fails because of the way we did it, we come back and put it right at no charge — no argument about it.
What that doesn't cover: work by other trades, materials you supplied yourself, and anything outside our scope on the job — electrical, plumbing and gas included, because we don't touch those.
Insurance
Stud Building and Maintenance is insured with RACV. If you want to see the certificate of currency before we start, ask when you call and we'll send it through — no need to explain why. All work is done to Australian building standards.
Property managers and landlords: tell us what your agency needs on the certificate and we'll get it to you in the format they want.
Reviews
We don't have Google reviews yet, and we're not going to write ourselves any. What we can do instead is show you photos of recent jobs, including ones near you — ask when you call, or look at the recent work on the homepage. Every photo on this site is a job we did. If we have worked for you, our Google listing is the place to leave one — it helps us more than anything else on this page.
