The business, on paper
One carpenter, three to five years in the trade, working out of Mitcham. When you call, you get the person who'll be doing the work — not a call centre, and not a subcontractor you've never met. That's the whole point of hiring a small operation: the quote, the work and the person you ring afterwards are all the same.
What we do
Our three main services are timber decks, bathroom renovation carpentry and carpentry repairs (fascia, eaves, doors and rot). We also do timber framing, custom carpentry and period timber. Grab rails and access ramps are available if you ask.
What we don't do
We're a carpenter, so electrical, plumbing and gas are not ours. If your job needs any of those we'll tell you at the quote rather than halfway through, and we'll say what needs a licensed trade instead of ours.
How quoting works
Call or send the form. You'll hear back within one business day. For anything beyond a two-minute question we come out and look at the job — that visit is free, and it's the only way to give you a number that holds.
After the visit you get a fixed price in writing. Not a range, not an estimate that moves once the work starts. If we open something up and find a genuine surprise — rot further along a bearer than anyone could see from outside — we stop, show you, and re-quote that part before carrying on.
Every job gets a fixed price in writing after photos or a site look. See how we price.
The 12-month workmanship guarantee
Twelve months from the invoice date on our workmanship. If something we built or fixed fails because of the way we did it, we come back and put it right at no charge — no argument about it.
What that doesn't cover: work by other trades, materials you supplied yourself, and anything outside our scope on the job — electrical, plumbing and gas included, because we don't touch those.
Insurance
Stud Building and Maintenance is insured with RACV. If you want to see the certificate of currency before we start, ask when you call and we'll send it through — no need to explain why. All work is done to Australian building standards.
Property managers and landlords: tell us what your agency needs on the certificate and we'll get it to you in the format they want.
Reviews
Stud Building and Maintenance has real Google reviews on our Mitcham Google Business Profile — mostly from maintenance and carpentry jobs across Melbourne's eastern suburbs. We don't write them ourselves, and we don't paste star counts or quotes onto this site (those go stale fast). Read what's there on Google, or look at recent work on the homepage — every photo is a job we did. If we've worked for you, leaving a review on that listing helps more than anything else on this page.
