Stud Building and Maintenance renovates bathrooms and ensuites across Melbourne’s east, from Richmond to Wantirna, plus Albert Park, Middle Park and St Kilda, from a base in Mitcham VIC. We run the whole job as your one point of contact. We organise the plumber, waterproofer and tiler and book them in the right order. The carpentry is ours: wall framing, shower niches, and any rotten floor or subfloor found under the old bathroom. You get a fixed price in writing before work starts.
One point of contact, start to finish
The person who quotes your bathroom runs the job and is on site. We schedule the work, book each trade in order and keep you updated, so you are not chasing anyone.
The trades we organise
The plumber, the waterproofer and the tiler.
The carpentry we do ourselves
Strip-out, wall framing and re-framing, shower and bath niches, noggings, floor and subfloor repairs, and the door, architraves and skirting to finish. See new bathroom door and frame.

What drives the price
Every bathroom is different, so there is no set price. These are the things that move it:
| Driver | Why it moves the price |
|---|---|
| Room size and ceiling height | Waterproofing area, tile area and labour |
| Keeping or moving the toilet, shower or vanity | Moving fixtures adds plumbing and floor work |
| Tiles: size, pattern, floor-to-ceiling or not | Tiling time and material |
| Fixtures and fittings chosen | Vanity, tapware, screen, bath |
| What is under the old floor | Rot or subfloor damage adds carpentry (see below) |
| Access | Upstairs, apartments and tight access |
| Niches and extras | Each niche adds framing, waterproofing and tiling detail |
Small bathrooms and ensuites
A small room still needs the same trades and the same stages as a large one, so the cost does not shrink in proportion to the floor area.
You get a fixed price in writing after a site look.
Found rot under the old floor? What happens next
Slow leaks under showers and toilets are common, especially in older eastern-suburbs homes, and the damage often only shows once the old floor comes up.
- We stop, photograph it and show you
- We price the extra timber work in writing before going ahead
- We cut joists, bearers and flooring back to sound timber and replace them ourselves, with no waiting for a separate carpenter
- The cause of the leak is dealt with by the plumber we organise
Signs before you start: a spongy floor near the shower or toilet, cracked or lifting tiles, or a musty smell. For rot elsewhere in the house, see rot elsewhere in the house.
Layout and niche choices
Keep the layout or move fixtures
Keeping the toilet, shower and vanity where they are is usually cheaper. Moving them adds plumbing and floor work.
Shower niches
Decide on niches before framing, size them to the tile, and use an internal wall where possible. We frame them ourselves.
Wall support for fixtures
While the walls are open we put in noggings (noggins) for the vanity, towel rails, shower screen and shelving, so each one has solid timber to fix into.

Frequently asked questions
Do you do full bathroom renovations?
Yes. We run the whole job as your one point of contact and organise the plumber, waterproofer and tiler. The carpentry, including framing, niches and any floor repairs, is done by us.
Who will I deal with during the renovation?
One person, from quote to handover. The person who quotes runs the job and is on site.
How much does a bathroom renovation cost?
Every bathroom is different, so we give a fixed price in writing after a site look. The main things that move the price are room size, whether fixtures move, the tiles and fittings you choose, and what is found under the old floor.
How much does a small bathroom or ensuite cost to renovate?
We price it the same way, with a fixed price in writing after a site look. A small room still needs the same trades and the same stages, so the cost does not shrink in proportion to the floor area.
What happens if you find rot under the floor?
We stop, show you, and price the extra timber work in writing before going ahead. Because we are carpenters, we fix it ourselves instead of waiting for a separate carpenter.
Is it cheaper to keep the same layout?
Usually. Moving the toilet, shower or vanity adds plumbing and floor work.
Which suburbs do you cover?
Eastern Melbourne from Richmond to Wantirna, plus Albert Park, Middle Park and St Kilda. Use the service area checker to confirm your suburb.
