What I do
- Grab rails and hand rails, installed to AS 1428.1 — fixed to solid noggings or studs, not to plasterboard alone
- Access ramps and threshold ramps, timber
- Step work — a step made even, a half-step removed, a handrail added to existing stairs
- Threshold work — levelling a raised door sill so a walker or wheelchair clears it
- Door widening, where the opening is non-structural
- Minor bathroom modifications — rail placement, a removed vanity, timber packing and blocking for a fitting
What I don't do
I'm a carpenter, so the boundaries matter more here than on a normal job. I don't do structural work, and I don't take anything that needs a building permit. Plumbing, electrical and gas aren't mine — if your modification needs a shower relocated or a circuit moved, you'll need those trades and I'll say so at the quote rather than after.
I'm not a registered building practitioner. All work stays minor, non-structural, and under Victoria's $10,000 threshold. If a job is bigger than that, I'll tell you at the quote and you'll need a registered builder.
For occupational therapists and coordinators
Grab rails go in to AS 1428.1 — height, projection and fixing. If you've specified a position and a length, I'll install to your spec; if you'd rather I measure and come back with what fits the wall, I'll do that instead.
The work sits inside the minor home modification scope used by Support at Home and NDIS plans. To be clear about one thing: I'm not an NDIS registered provider, so this suits self-managed and plan-managed participants rather than agency-managed ones.
On paperwork: send the request however your service does it — a scope, an email, or photos and a measurement. You'll get a written fixed price back within one business day, itemised the way you need it for a quote comparison, plus photos on completion if the file needs them.

How fast can you quote?
Within one business day of you sending the details. Access work is usually needed sooner rather than later, so if it's urgent, say so when you call and I'll tell you honestly where it sits in the week.
Do you install grab rails to AS 1428?
Yes — height, projection and fixing to AS 1428.1. Rails are fixed to studs or to solid noggings, never to plasterboard alone. If an OT has specified a position and length, I install to that spec.
Can you work with an occupational therapist's scope?
