- Rails to AS 1428.1 — fixed to studs or noggings, never plasterboard alone
- Not an NDIS registered provider — self-managed and plan-managed only
- Minor, non-structural work under Victoria's $10,000 line — not a registered builder, no permit work
What we install
- Straight and angled grab rails beside toilets, in showers and beside baths
- Handrails on existing stairs and at landings
- Rails at a raised threshold or single step where a handhold is the right fix
- Blocking and packing behind plaster so the fixing lands in solid timber

AS 1428.1 fixing
Height, projection and fixing follow AS 1428.1. Every rail is fixed into studs or into solid noggings we fit for the job — never into plasterboard alone. That is the difference between a rail that holds and one that fails when someone needs it.
If an occupational therapist has specified position and length, we install to that scope. If you want us to measure the wall and propose what fits, we will do that and send a written fixed price back within one business day.
Bathrooms and stairs
Most jobs are bathroom rails and stair handrails. Wet areas need solid blocking and the right fasteners; stairs need consistent height and a clear run. We keep the work neat, leave the site clean, and send completion photos if the OT file needs them.
OT workflow
We work from OT scopes every week. Send the document however your service produces it — PDF, email, or photos with measurements. You get an itemised fixed price for comparison, then install to the written spec. More on how we work with therapists on the access hub OT section.
Honesty on scope
We're not a registered building practitioner and we're not an NDIS registered provider. All grab rail work stays minor, non-structural, and under Victoria's $10,000 registration threshold. No permit work. Agency-managed NDIS plans need a registered provider — we suit self-managed and plan-managed participants only. Plumbing, electrical and gas aren't ours; if a modification needs those trades, we'll say so at the quote.
Who you're dealing with
Suburbs we cover
Camberwell, Balwyn, Glen Iris, Blackburn and Mitcham, working out of Mitcham. Access jobs are usually urgent, and these are the suburbs we can get to quickly. Outside that ring, call and ask.
Common questions
Do you install grab rails to AS 1428.1?
Yes. Height, projection and fixing follow AS 1428.1. Rails are fixed to studs or solid noggings — never to plasterboard alone. If an OT has specified position and length, we install to that spec.
Where do you typically fit grab rails?
Bathrooms (beside the toilet, in the shower, beside the bath), stair landings and along existing stairs, and at a raised threshold or step where a handhold is safer than a ramp alone.
Are you a registered builder or NDIS registered provider?
No to both. We are carpenters doing minor, non-structural work under Victoria's $10,000 line — not a registered building practitioner, and not an NDIS registered provider. Self-managed and plan-managed participants only.
How fast can you quote grab rails?
Within one business day of receiving the details or OT scope. If it is urgent, say so when you call and we will tell you honestly where it sits in the week.
